GIVING BACK

GR8 Tool and Equipment Hire support many charities their two main ones are Together in West Essex and DSUK. Disability Snowsport UK is a people-centred organisation with a unique sense of purpose: that anyone regardless of their disability can take part in and enjoy the thrill of snowsports. DSUK have applied exceptional know-how and adaptability for over 30 years to enable those with a disability to experience the joy of skiing alongside the able-bodied. GR8’s director Josh Thompson and his wife Megan have volunteered they time for several years to support this charity by becoming helpers on the ski slopes in several different locations abroad and in the UK. This year Josh was joined by one of GR8’s managers, Nick Evans and both gentlemen took to the slopes once again to support DSUK, in helping to support exciting and life enhancing activities for individuals or groups who require adaptive equipment and/or special instruction. The GR8 staff thoroughly enjoy supporting such a worthwhile cause and will continue to do so.

GR8 Tool and Equipment Hire have supported Together in West Essex since it opened for business in March 2013. Together in West Essex, charity No.1105575, helps to provide relief to Breast Cancer sufferers in West Essex by the contributing towards the provision of equipment at the Princess Alexandra Hospital Harlow Essex and towards Research at St Margarets Hospital Epping. The charity was set up by Symone White and Karen Thompson, mother of GR8’s director-Josh, in 2003,so far they’ve raised over £400,000 towards Breast Cancer Clinical Trials. Karen stated that, ‘This amount has only been able to be achieved with the help of so many kind and generous people, including all the staff at GR8’.

GR8 have organised and ran two 10km charity runs in Bishops Stortford both events raised in the region of £10,000 each year and held a 10km walk in Hatfield Forest. The ‘Hat’field Forest charity walk was a huge success that saw approximately 300 people taking part, many walkers brought their dogs along. It was a fantastic day and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

All the GR8 staff are keen to support the charity events and give their time freely. Another charity fund raiser that was started was the #GR8 HAT CHALLENGE. GR8 supplied FREE charity hats, that could be worn anywhere - the more interesting or funnier the photograph-the better. The photos of people wearing their GR8 hat was then posted on Facebook, and the photo with the most likes was the weekly winning photo. GR8 then donated £50 per week for the photograph on behalf of the winner; this raised an additional £1500.

We had many entries from all over the world- The Falklands, Thailand, Harlow, Dunmow, South Africa, Atlanta to name but a few destinations. Several members of the GR8 staff kindly volunteered to be models in the 2018 charity calendar.

GR8 will once again be supporting the breast cancer charity’s 10th annual Christmas Fayre in November.
